With the surf just metres from the open wraparound windows, breathe in the fresh salty air and listen to the soothing sound of the ocean as you enjoy a specialty coffee, sunset cocktail or enticing dish. Welcome to Shelter.
Owners Andy Love and Troy Noonan collaborated to create this foodie venture, and met when they worked at Three Ducks Blue at the infamous The Farm in Byron Bay. Talented young chef Pete Townsend has joined the team as the Head Chef.

“We wanted to put the best of the region on the plate,” says Pete.
And this is exactly what you get. The team at Shelter work with local providores, seafood trawlers and butchers to source the ingredients to create a menu based on fresh seasonal offerings.
The community is the glue for the team at Shelter and they endeavour to use ethically sustainable products sourced from local growers and suppliers. Their mission is to cultivate and create awareness around supporting local producers to educate their customers about how their food reached the table.
“For us, it’s about lessening our footprint in the tiniest way we can,” says Night Manager Kim. “We provide about 200 litres of restaurant food scraps to Lennox Community Gardens every week to create a compost pile which will eventually go into their community garden. That’s 200 litres less in land fill. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
Shelter is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. From tantalising breakfasts, like fish cakes with poached eggs and gentleman’s relish or XO scrambled eggs with pickled chilli and peanuts to delectable dishes such as Shark Bay scallops with XO, preserved lemon and wild rice or kingfish with koji dressing, kaffir lime oil and compressed cucumber, there is something to tempt everyone. Pair your food with delicious unique cocktails and boutique wine and craft beer.
Shelter also offers a beachside venue for weddings and other special celebrations. It’s the perfect space to soak in the stunning views and atmosphere.
